The Australia Technology Park (ATP) is an expansive technology and event complex housed in one of Sydney’s oldest historic landmarks, the Locomotive Workshops. From the late 1800s through the late 1900s, the Locomotive Workshops served as a world-class industrial center for railways. Since the inception of the ATP in 1995, the area has again emerged as a leader in innovation.

Six miles from Sydney Airport, ATP has become a popular site for everything from small board meetings to conventions. Capable of accommodating up to 10,000 people at one time, the complex needed an alternative to outsourcing AV for the hundreds of events it hosts each year. In order to connect content throughout the complex, its IT team was intent on becoming one of the first adopters of networked AV in Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) region.

ATP wanted to find an automated, self-sufficient system capable of working in the venue’s individual meeting rooms and flexible enough for larger events. The solution needed to serve as a standalone, yet be agile and adaptable enough to work in conjunction with outsourced AV equipment, if needed.

ATP’s primary requirement was the ability to share content across all the screens throughout the complex. They wanted to make sure they could stream live theater presentations to foyers and other overflow areas, accommodate live internet streaming, and easily switch to announcements and promotional signage.

System integrator avlogic provided ATP with an SVSI IP-based centralized AV solution from AMX. 401_AVT_ATP_ 003The system allowed the facility to establish a distribution center, where content could be instantly sent to screens in any of part of the complex.

Steve Hardie, ATP’s internal IT manager, was involved throughout the design and installation processes. He was excited by the system’s modular structure that made the installation fast and cost effective. He was also impressed by the ability of the SVSI system to easily expand as the complex’s needs continue to grow. Working closely with avlogic, Hardie has been able to handle most of the system’s post-training and support needs.
