And, on June 21, 2016, music pros and beginners alike gathered in 700 cities across 120 countries to celebrate <a href=\"http:\/\/makemusicday.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Make Music Day<\/a>. From urban street corners to gallery loading docks and from parks to plazas, musicians and vocalists transcended language, age and expertise to find common ground by creating music together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1227 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pro.harman.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/POSTIMG_2430-edit-e1468002823473.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"308\" \/>Continuing the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F%C3%AAte_de_la_Musique\" target=\"_blank\">Fete de la Musique<\/a> tradition that started in France 34 years ago, <a href=\"http:\/\/makemusicday.org\/national-projects\/street-studios\/\" target=\"_blank\">HARMAN Street Studio<\/a> pop-ups brought producers, instruments, and recording and playback setups to Bangalore, Budapest, Munich, Tel Aviv, New York and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>In the burgeoning Downtown Los Angeles Arts <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1228 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pro.harman.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/POSTunspecified-2-e1468002523726.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"313\" \/>District, producer, engineer and musician <a href=\"http:\/\/1beat.org\/people\/griffin-rodriguez\/\" target=\"_blank\">Griffin Rodriguez<\/a>\u00a0(Beirut, Modest Mouse, Califone) layered and looped tracks on the spot, attracting dozens of locals who added hip-hop verses, yelps, guitar, piano, synthesizer, percussion and even the thump of skateboards on the sidewalk. \u201cWith the software available today, I was easily able to compose and arrange out on the street,\u201d said Griffin. \u201cAnd, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jblpro.com\/www\/products\/recording-broadcast\/3-series\/lsr305#.V22X-_krKUk\" target=\"_blank\">JBL LSR305<\/a> monitors we used were portable enough to set up quickly and provided a clear, full-powered sound that was perfect for exterior use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1229\" src=\"http:\/\/pro.harman.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/POSTIMG_2340-edit-for-collage-e1468002730290.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"393\" \/>Outside of <a href=\"http:\/\/artsharela.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Art Share L.A<\/a>., a vibrant exhibition and artist loft center, acclaimed writer, actor and musician <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thisisdahlak.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dahlak<\/a> joined Rodriguez to lay down the initial rhythms and instrumentation for each of several tracks, then served as the MC, encouraging passersby to join the jam. In the spirit of the day, absolute strangers\u2014some leaving work, others heading for classes, pros who heard rumors of the pop-up studio and a few who drove by and were too <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1212\" src=\"http:\/\/pro.harman.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_2276-e1468002624759.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"345\" \/>curious not to stop, spontaneously shared their musical instincts and inspirations. Fannie Mayfield, an elderly resident of the neighborhood, strode up with a broad smile and a twinkle in her eye and remarked, \u201cMy, my, isn\u2019t this just about the best way to spend an afternoon?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Helping to pack up the instruments and recording gear as Make Music Day\u00a0came to an close, Dahlak said, \u201cWe really had some great moments today, when the people of the community really came together\u2014and so did the music!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Was there a Make Music Day event in your neighborhood?
