Smartphones often get updated overnight and computers also beg for updates (often leading to frustration :)).<\/p>\n<p>Lighting fixtures aren\u2019t any different. At regular intervals, manufacturers like HARMAN issue new firmware for lighting fixtures. This firmware might include some bug fixes, extra built-in effect macros or even completely new functionalities.<\/p>\n<p>While some lighting fixtures include a USB port to facilitate memory stick firmware upgrades, many do not. And when you need to update the firmware for many fixtures at once, or for fixtures hanging in the air, individual memory stick installs isn\u2019t very convenient. This is why all Martin lighting fixtures can also be updated via their DMX or network cable, eliminating the need to physically access the fixture and enabling multiple fixture updates.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6817\" style=\"width: 2777px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"lightbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.martin.com\/en\/products\/martin-companion\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6817\" class=\"wp-image-6817 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pro.harman.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/One-To-Replace-Them-All.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2767\" height=\"1359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hpro-web-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/insights\/uploads\/2019\/05\/One-To-Replace-Them-All.png 2767w, https:\/\/hpro-web-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/insights\/uploads\/2019\/05\/One-To-Replace-Them-All-768x377.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2767px) 100vw, 2767px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6817\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One solution to replace them all &#8211; Martin Companion.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>DMX cable fixture firmware upgrades require an update app and some sort of USB-to-DMX hardware interface. As the Martin product portfolio is diverse and spans a period of over 30 years, not all products are based on the same architecture. This means that not all Martin lighting fixtures would use the same update app and USB-to-DMX hardware interface. To ensure coverage of all Martin fixtures, you would need seven different USB-to-DMX boxes or cables and 7 different \u201cupdate apps\u201d installed on your computer. All different \u201cfixture firmware update apps\u201d were merged into one single application that covers them all. At the same time, a new and affordable USB-to-DMX hardware interface, the Martin Companion Cable, was developed, supporting the Martin Companion app in updating firmware to ANY Martin lighting fixture.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6809\" style=\"width: 473px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6809\" class=\"wp-image-6809\" src=\"https:\/\/pro.harman.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hpro-web-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/insights\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog3.png 1200w, https:\/\/hpro-web-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/insights\/uploads\/2019\/04\/blog3-768x492.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-6809\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Martin Companion app view.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Gone are the days where a lighting technician had to drag around seven different boxes or cables. Just having the Martin Companion Cable enables he or she to get the job done. In total, Martin Companion supports 135 different Martin products in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.martin.com\/en-US\/product_families\/mac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MAC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.martin.com\/en-US\/product_families\/era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ERA<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.martin.com\/en-US\/product_families\/elp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ELP<\/a>, RUSH and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.martin.com\/en-US\/product_families\/exterior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exterior<\/a> ranges. And more new and legacy products are being added on a regular basis. The Martin Companion App is constantly synchronizing its database with the server.
