Located in Moqattam, Cairo, Al-Aziz Al-Hakim Mosque serves as both a house of worship and a gathering place for the surrounding community, hosting daily prayers, Friday sermons, religious events and community activities. The scale of the mosque, combined with stone and marble surfaces that create long reverberation times, presented challenges for maintaining speech intelligibility throughout the worship space. The project required an integrated audio platform capable of supporting worship, community gatherings and broadcast applications while preserving the mosque’s architectural character and providing consistent coverage across indoor and outdoor areas.
Audio Technology designed and integrated a HARMAN Professional system centered on JBL Professional CBT Series column loudspeakers throughout the main prayer hall. Utilizing Constant Beamwidth Technology, the loudspeakers focus sound toward the congregation while reducing reflections from walls and ceilings. JBL Professional AWC Series all-weather loudspeakers extend intelligible coverage to outdoor gathering areas while maintaining tonal consistency across the property.
Soundcraft digital mixing consoles provide operators with control for daily prayers, religious events and live productions. Crown XLS and Crown CDi DriveCore Series amplifiers power the system, while a BSS Soundweb platform featuring BLU-100 signal processors and EC-8BV wall controllers provides centralized routing, time alignment, zoning, preset management and day-to-day control.
“The project was unique because it combined a complete HARMAN ecosystem across professional audio, broadcast infrastructure and security systems while respecting the architectural identity of the mosque,” said Nermeen Iskander, Marketing Director for Audio Technology. “The JBL CBT loudspeakers provided uniform coverage and speech intelligibility required for the main prayer hall, while the JBL AWC loudspeakers delivered natural sound outdoors. Combined with Soundcraft mixers, Crown amplifiers and the BSS processing platform, the system gives operators the flexibility to manage different worship and community events from a centralized network.”
The completed system delivers improved speech intelligibility and consistent coverage throughout Al-Aziz Al-Hakim Mosque, including during larger gatherings and multilingual events. Precise time alignment between indoor and outdoor loudspeakers reduces distracting echoes and overlapping coverage, while centralized BSS processing allows staff to quickly recall configurations for daily worship, community events and other applications.
The integrated JBL Professional, Crown, Soundcraft and BSS ecosystem also supports live broadcasts of major religious events while providing the flexibility for future system expansion. By creating a unified audio environment across the mosque, Audio Technology delivered a system that improves clarity and day-to-day operation while maintaining the architectural identity and spiritual atmosphere of the worship space.
