As part of the Egyptian government’s national initiative to restore and preserve historic mosques, the Al-Sayyida Nafisa Mosque in Old Cairo underwent a significant renovation with support from HARMAN Professional Solutions and local integrator Audio Technology. Honoring one of the most revered Ahl Al-Bayt sites, the project sought to strengthen spiritual access, preserve architectural integrity and introduce modern technology in one of Egypt’s most cherished Islamic landmarks.
Formally inaugurated by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in spring 2025, the renovation reinforces the mosque’s essential role in daily worship, Islamic education and community life. With a renewed infrastructure, the site continues to serve as a vital destination for spiritual seekers while offering improved accessibility and a modernized worship experience.
“From the outset, our goal was to honor the mosque’s spiritual legacy while solving acoustic challenges with professionalism and integrity,” said Mario G. To achieve clear, consistent sound without compromising the mosque’s architectural beauty, Audio Technology selected a range of JBL Professional solutions designed for intelligibility, control and durability in both indoor and outdoor spaces. The main prayer halls feature JBL CBT 70J-1 column array speakers, whose 16 high-frequency drivers deliver uniform vertical coverage and articulate speech reinforcement. JBL CBT 50LA-1 loudspeakers provide discreet Imam monitoring, while additional CBT 70J-1 units support clarity in the women’s prayer hall.
For outdoor courtyards and surrounding areas, JBL AWC159 all-weather compact two-way coaxial loudspeakers were installed to deliver powerful, full-range sound built to withstand Cairo’s climate. JBL AWC62 loudspeakers, engineered for durability, cover the mosque’s entrance and gathering areas, ensuring worshippers experience the same clarity indoors and out.
The upgraded sound system balances reverence and reliability, delivering precise audio performance without detracting from the visual serenity and spiritual importance of the site. By providing consistent coverage across all spaces, the JBL Professional system supports daily prayers, religious events and increasing numbers of worshippers while preserving the sanctity of the landmark.
