The Opportunity
Developed by The Pelligra Group in partnership with ONE7 and IHG Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes, northern Adelaide’s first premium full-service hotel, was designed to serve the growing business, education and technology sectors with premium accommodation and flexible event facilities. The hotel features four dedicated conference and event spaces totaling 442 square meters, with a dramatic 14-meter-high atrium, alongside restaurants, bars, public gathering areas and recreational facilities.
A primary goal of the project was to create conference and event spaces that could operate independently without requiring extensive external AV support. Hotel staff needed an integrated system that would allow guests to host meetings, presentations and functions using built-in audiovisual technology while minimizing operational complexity. At the same time, the property required a consistent background music system capable of enhancing the guest experience throughout hospitality spaces, with audio tailored to the atmosphere of each environment.
The Solution
Integration firm Corporate Initiatives designed and integrated a venue-wide audio system centered on JBL Professional loudspeakers powered by Crown amplifiers, providing distributed audio throughout reception, lobby spaces, restaurants, bars, conference facilities, the 14-meter atrium, balcony areas, gymnasium, elevators and public amenities areas.
The installation includes 14x JBL Control 16 ceiling loudspeakers installed throughout reception, lobby and amenities areas, while 25x JBL Control 18C/T loudspeakers support ballroom spaces, the gymnasium and additional high-traffic zones. 3x JBL Control 24CT loudspeakers provide coverage within elevator areas, and 20x JBL Control 65 pendant speakers selected for the hotel’s bar, restaurant and reception environments. 20x JBL SLP14 surface mount loudspeakers deployed throughout the balcony and the venue’s 14-meter-high atrium space, while 4x JBL 8128 in-ceiling loudspeakers support select gym and reception areas. The system is powered throughout by Crown amplifiers, providing centralized control, reliable operation and scalable zone management.
The integrated design allows conference and function spaces to operate independently, with sound reinforcement already in place, enabling guests to host meetings and presentations without bringing in external AV equipment for typical event requirements.
The system was also configured with dedicated audio zones, customized voicing profiles and independent volume control to support the different environments throughout the hotel. Background music can be tailored to each space, allowing restaurants, bars, conference rooms and public areas to maintain their own atmosphere while remaining intuitive for non-technical hotel staff to manage.
The Result
The installation provides Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes with a flexible, venue-wide audio system that supports both hospitality and conferencing from a single integrated platform. More than 80 JBL Professional loudspeakers deliver consistent sound throughout the property while allowing staff to independently control audio across multiple zones.
Throughout the hotel's hospitality spaces, the zoned JBL Professional system plays an equally important role by shaping the guest experience through carefully managed background music. Independent audio profiles allow each area—from the lobby and atrium to the restaurant, bar and function spaces—to maintain an appropriate atmosphere while ensuring a consistent audio experience across the property.
By combining a large-scale JBL Professional installation with Crown amplifiers, the zoned audio infrastructure supports the hotel's daily operations, simplifies event management and provides flexibility to accommodate a wide range of business and hospitality activities.
