HYROX Fitness Competition Tour, North America

The Opportunity

Since launching its U.S. tour in 2021, HYROX has grown from a small fitness competition into a global brand drawing elite athletes and fans to massive venues across the country. With events now spanning over 250,000 square feet of convention space and multiple days of programming, HYROX needed an audio solution that could deliver consistent, full-range performance while scaling effortlessly to match the tour’s rapid expansion. Vantage Production Group was tasked with creating an agile system capable of supporting energetic live MCs, music playback and environmental adaptability across indoor and open-air locations.

The Solution

To meet these evolving demands, Vantage Production Group deployed the JBL SRX900 Series across the tour, centering around the compact yet powerful SRX906LA line array loudspeakers. The system offered clear, balanced coverage across sprawling venues, from the “rock zone” competition area to audience seating and finish stages. As the tour scaled, so did the system – from a few tower lifts to a setup of six lifts with four SRX906LA units each, covering up to 300,000 square feet.

“The client immediately noticed the difference when we switched to JBL SRX,” said Daniel Nickleski, COO of Vantage Production Group by Sound Works. “They started saying, ‘these sound great’ and pointed to the towers we were using so they asked for even more.”

For high-impact zones like the finish stage, the team added JBL VRX932LA-1 loudspeakers and JBL VRX918S subwoofers to intensify the experience. Meanwhile, the SRX906LA’s extended low-frequency response minimized the need for subs elsewhere. “I was walking through the venue and thought I was standing near a sub,” Nickleski added. “But it was just four JBL 906s on a tower 50 feet away. That’s a testament to the product.”

System design and deployment were handled by systems engineer Brian Rutter using JBL Venue Synthesis and Performance Manager. The setup was powered by Crown amplifiers and connected via Dante, allowing real-time adjustments from anywhere in the venue. “We get Vectorworks or PDFs of each space,” said Rutter. “I drop them into Venue Synthesis and figure out the best coverage without blocking sight lines or pathways. The delay finder is probably the best I’ve used, we’re within five milliseconds of perfect from the first push.”

The Result

From convention centers to open-air venues like Pier 76 in New York City and Navy Pier in Chicago, the JBL SRX900 Series consistently delivered powerful, high-fidelity sound that scaled with HYROX’s ambitious growth. The ecosystem’s integration across software and hardware platforms enabled quick setup and accurate tuning, even in challenging acoustic environments.

“With JBL, it’s not just the sound, it’s the ecosystem,” said Nickleski. “JBL Venue Synthesis and Performance Manager talk to each other. We don’t have to jump between platforms like we do with other brands. It’s accurate, scalable, and makes a huge difference.”

The four-person Vantage crew now travels with the tour, integrating seamlessly with local teams to deploy reliable audio across every zone, ensuring fans and athletes experience the energy and clarity the brand demands.
“The whole system scales beautifully,” added Nickleski. “If we have a bigger room, we just send another case of JBL 906s. It clicks onto the lift and we’re up and running. And the coverage…what we model is what we hear in the venue. That’s what our client hears too.”

With 16 U.S. events and growing, HYROX continues to rely on the JBL SRX900 Series as the audio backbone of its high-intensity competition experience. “It’s grown from three U.S. events in 2021 to 16 and counting,” said Nickleski. “And JBL has kept up with every step of that growth.”
