As the first mosque built in Islamic history and one of four mosques mentioned in the Quran, Quba Mosque holds a significant place in Islamic heritage and welcomes worshippers and pilgrims from around the world. As part of the King Salman Project and Saudi Vision 2030, the mosque underwent its largest expansion to date, increasing capacity to accommodate up to 66,000 worshippers across 50,000 square meters. The expanded prayer and surrounding spaces required an audio system capable of delivering clear, consistent speech and recitation across large areas while preserving the serenity, architectural character and spiritual significance of the site. The system also needed to provide controlled coverage for the call to prayer while minimizing reflections and maintaining appropriate sound levels throughout the mosque.
Working with HAV, Quba Mosque implemented an integrated HARMAN Professional system featuring JBL Professional loudspeakers, Crown amplifiers and BSS processors. A key element of the installation is the deployment of JBL Professional SRX906 line array loudspeakers within the mosque’s four minarets, making Quba Mosque the only mosque in Saudi Arabia to use line arrays in its minarets. The compact arrays provide focused, long-throw coverage for the call to prayer, directing sound across surrounding areas while controlling reflections and unnecessary acoustic spill.
Throughout the mosque’s interior and surrounding spaces, JBL Professional CBT 70 Series column loudspeakers provide controlled vertical coverage and consistent sound distribution across the expanded prayer areas. Additional JBL Professional Control Series and AWC Series loudspeakers extend coverage into auxiliary and outdoor zones, creating a cohesive listening experience throughout the site.
BSS BLU-series DSP processors provide signal routing, equalization, delay alignment and zoning, with BSS EC-8BV wall controllers supporting localized system operation. Crown XTi and Crown CDi DriveCore amplifiers power the loudspeaker system, providing the headroom and reliability required for continuous operation during daily prayers and periods of peak attendance.
The completed HARMAN Professional system provides Quba Mosque with consistent speech intelligibility and controlled sound coverage across its expanded prayer spaces, auxiliary areas and outdoor zones. JBL Professional CBT, Control and AWC Series loudspeakers help maintain even levels throughout the site, while BSS processing provides precise delay alignment and zoning to reduce reflections and improve coherence between coverage areas.
Within the four minarets, the JBL Professional SRX906 line arrays provide focused projection for the call to prayer, extending coverage over long distances while limiting unnecessary sound energy outside the intended areas. Crown amplification supports reliable operation throughout the system, including during periods when tens of thousands of worshippers gather at the mosque.
By combining JBL Professional loudspeakers with Crown amplification and BSS processing, HAV delivered a modernized sound reinforcement system that supports the scale of Quba Mosque’s expansion while maintaining the clarity and restraint appropriate for one of Islam’s most historically significant places of worship.
