Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas Cruise Ship, USA

THE OPPORTUNITY

In designing the groundbreaking Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines needed a world class lighting solution and manufacturer they could trust and partner with to deliver an experience that would far and above, exceed guest expectations. As the debut ship of their newest Icon Class, Icon featured eight neighborhoods that are destinations in themselves with a combination of experiences for every type of family and vacationer. From more than 40 restaurants and bars to six record-breaking slides at the first waterpark at sea, to a neighborhood designed for young families, Icon was a truly unique ship and vacation destination.

THE SOLUTION

Selected for its decades-long reputation for outfitting the world’s top cruise lines, Martin won Royal Caribbean’s confidence with its superior global reach and premium support, genuine partnership engagement, and stellar record for product performance, quality of light, durability, and reliability. A variety of Martin’s most innovative ranges were specified throughout the ship as the main brand for each of Icon’s many primary entertainment venues, including MAC Ultra, MAC Aura, ERA, ELP, Exterior, VDO, Atomic, P3, and more.

THE IMPACT

“It’s been a fascinating journey, and the one thing with Royal Caribbean that we’ve been allowed to do is choose the right thing for the right environment. But I think what a lot of people have forgotten is that this ship was built during COVID, which was a massive struggle for our company and also suppliers and vendors which is why it’s so important to partner with the right people.” – Christopher Vlassopulos, Manager, Sound and Light, Newbuilding, Royal Caribbean Group

“Having the manufacturers involved is fantastic. I’ve had a great relationship with Martin, and they’ve been instantly in contact whenever I need them. It’s been a great help. Even when I don’t know how to do something, I can reach out and get the answer as soon as possible from up to 10 different people…” – Nick Mugnaini, Lighting Project Lead, Skylight Services

“Icon of the Seas is by far the most technologically advanced local entertainment system on sound, light, and video. I mean this ship has the biggest lighting infrastructure of any ship in the world… So support, service and the quality of the fixtures, of course, make a big difference on how we do it and who we pick. Icon of the Seas is setting a new level, a new paradigm in entertainment and how it all is interconnected as one big system. What makes me smile is looking at the final product and how it all just comes together and becomes one.” – Amir El Yordi, Co-founder & President, Control AV

“I was really excited to work with the (Martin) P3 system and get it all integrated… We have the (Martin) VDO Sceptrons and the Martin (MAC Aura) PXLs and just to see the integration between two different worlds come together and just light up the room is just mind blowing.”
