As NBCUniversal’s flagship Spanish-language facility, Telemundo Center in Miami houses a wide range of spaces, broadcast control rooms, editorial suites, live sound stages, and glass-walled atriums, each with distinct acoustic and performance demands. With more than 500,000 square feet dedicated to daily production, corporate functions, and live programming, Telemundo needed a flexible and high-performance audio solution that could unify its complex media infrastructure. The challenge: deliver broadcast-ready fidelity and consistent sound reinforcement while maintaining a visually unobtrusive presence, especially in acoustically reflective spaces and high-profile televised events.
Telemundo turned to Acoutech to design and install a comprehensive JBL Professional loudspeaker system tailored to each environment. In the building’s all-glass atrium, used for town halls, premieres, and client-facing events, Acoutech specified JBL CBT1000 column loudspeakers for precise vertical control and main coverage. JBL CBT70 speakers on tripods provided rear imaging for 5.1 playback, while JBL VRX918 subwoofers and JBL SLP14/T loudspeakers handled full-range and speech-specific content, respectively.
“When coming into this project, we had to look at minimizing energy in the space as it is all glass and very live,” said Robert Acito of Acoutech. “We were looking for the best solution to keep the energy low in the space but also directed where it needed to be. This led us to choose the JBL SLP Series for dialog, broken up into zones, while still utilizing the CBT speakers and some VRX918 subwoofers for a full-range solution when we are dealing with TV show premieres and musical events.”
Throughout Telemundo Center’s editorial, post-production, and broadcast suites, JBL 3 Series and JBL 7 Series monitors deliver accurate, critical listening environments for content development and final mixdowns. The on-site music truck, previously owned by Acoutech and now operated by Tru Pixel Production, is equipped with JBL 705P monitors to manage music mixes separate from the primary feed.
“This wasn’t just an event story, and Telemundo isn’t just a JBL customer, they’re a JBL showcase,” said Daniella Peters, Director of Tour and Rental Sales for JBL Professional. “They’ve demonstrated how a full ecosystem of loudspeakers can unify a sprawling media operation. This is an ecosystem story. And Telemundo proves what’s possible when you go all in.”
The JBL ecosystem played a central role in the 2025 Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards, a major televised event honoring Celia Cruz, Anitta, and Selena Gomez, among others. For the broadcast, Telemundo converted a sound stage into a fully equipped live venue. JBL SRX906LA line arrays were flown to preserve sightlines for cameras and producers, while SRX918S subwoofers delivered deep, punchy low end to the audience without compromising clarity. Onstage monitoring was handled by JBL VRX932LA-1 loudspeakers, with the entire system powered by Crown amplifiers.
“The producers never want to see the speakers,” said JC Aguila, Network Audio Technical Manager for Telemundo. “But the sound must be perfect, both for the in-house audience and the broadcast. JBL helps us solve that every time.”
“It’s not just about power or fidelity,” added Raul Gonzalez, Applications Engineer, Live Sound & Rental Systems for JBL Professional, who partnered with Aguila on system design and tuning. “It’s about having the right tool for the job. JBL’s range gives us that flexibility across performance, architecture and integration.”
“We’re essentially a JBL house,” Aguila concluded. “From the moment you walk into the atrium to the final broadcast mix, every part of this facility has a JBL solution, and it all came together perfectly for this event.”
